Hardest sport to go pro in: basketball.

So many young athletes attempt to play basketball and there are just so few roster spots on pro teams... they can go to D league or go play overseas but to make an NBA team is nearly impossible.

Hardest sport to win a championship in: hockey

Extremely physical 7 game series, competing against talent from all over NA/EU and beyond, and attempting to beat perennial powerhouse teams such as Detroit/Boston/etc. BUT the NHL is more competitive than all other sports in the fact that in the last decade there have been 8 (I believe?) teams that have won a Stanley Cup.

Your question isn't very clear...

Do you mean "hardest" in terms of the most difficult to make it pro? Or "hardest" as in most physically demanding?

If the first one, I'd think Football/Basketball would be the hardest to make it professional because of all the people that play it.  If the second, I'd say football because it definitely takes a massive toll on your body.  Hockey is probably second in terms of career/life shortening injuries.

Well put

Why is basketball and baseball even on that list? Hell, soccer is way harder to play than basketball. Try controlling a ball without your hands.

Golf and Tennis. Not only would I say it has the smallest group of players it is also the hardest to actually make money unless you are placing in the top. On a team you are getting paid regardless. Sure there is sponsorship and ad money but often the majority of that is made by top golfers who place more then less in the top money spots.

Most people here just laugh at those because OMG GOLF HURDUR. Actually think of the player-base and the payment vs other sports.

hardest sport on the original list is hockey or football. probably hockey probably for the only reason that football requires so many more players.

In the world, probably soccer.

Basketball by far, if you aren't 6'6 or above you have almost no shot at being a pro, unless your dad and mom were professional players as well and they help you work on your game 24/7 growing up.

Also, 13 roster spots on 30 teams. That's less than 8 nfl team rosters.
