Hmm let me see

Hockey has NHL

European Football (alone) has

Barclays Premier League

La Liga

Bundesliga

oh and UEFA Champions League

So European Football alone takes the cake.

Now if we include World Football well its really not a fair comparison because now you include the World Cup.

Is that the measure of comparison we are using or is it based on other stats?

Objectively, football (soccer).

Many many leagues worldwide (hockey has leagues around the world, but I don't think anywhere near as many as football does)

Both require great athleticism. In hockey, with the couple minute shifts, players are throwing 100% before taking a break. In soccer, they do have the odd burst here and there, but not as dynamic. That being said, they are also moving around for 90 minutes with one break in between.

Excitement as a player, they play because they love it and I wouldn't think someone would play if it didn't excite them. Pretty equal I'd say.

I think the biggest difference comes in spectatorship. Football completely dominates this. Hockey is predominantly a North American sport, with great ties in Europe. Outside of that, hockey is lacking. Football on the other side has spectators at all corners of the globe. Internationally it is more played, more viewed, more attended.

Hockey has the NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL, OHL, QMJHL, WHL, USHL, NAHL, and more. Those are just in North America.

European leagues include KHL, Elitserien, Deutsche Eishockey Liga, SM-liiga, National League A, Extraliga Ledniho Hokeje, etc.

Your argument is invalid.
