Hello fellow d2jsp'ers

Im trying to get started fishing and I've been fishing for 2 hours each day the past two days. I haven't caught anything yet but Im still learning so no biggie.

I would really appreciate some help on how to get started fishing in put and take lakes so if any of you have some pointers it would be really awesome.

My gear is very basic. I have a rod which I can't remember the name of (its just a cheap one) and my dad in law just got me a new reel. Its a Shimano Exage 3000 SFC with a nice line.

I'm completely lost and I haven't been able to find some material where I live on how to get started. My biggest concern in that my hook setup is completely wrong. I have no idea how far down the hook is supposed to be from the float.

I will be going again tomorrow morning so hopefully my first catch is not that far away.

having the good gear is the first thing you wanna do

1. your line, it may be too big/visible for what you're fishing ... a flurocarbon leader would also help alot(it is nearly invisible in the water)
2. try knowing what species there is in the lake so u can use a specific lure/bait ...you will just waste ur time if u're using the wrong one

you should also read a bit about the species you'll be fishing
some fish will be at the bottom or near the surface of the water depending on the temperature/time of the day/etc

everyone should also stfu on the boat while u're fishing

Fish can't hear you. It's the movement that scares them, not the sound.

Quick thing most people don't think about - wear colors that don't stand out. I'm not saying put camo on, but wearing anything bright is going to stand out and fish can easily be scared away by the color difference.

I will be going after trouts in ponds called put and take here in scandinavia. The weather is 10-15c atm so from what I've read it would be a good idea to be fishing from the bottom and up like this:

Then move it around in the lake every 5 minutes. I have no experience in fishing with a bombarda or W/E they are called.

The line that I got along with my reel is what I would call flurocarbon. Its black and extremely durable. At the hook im using a bit of powerbait shaped like a small worm with a twist at the back of the tail.

Went to a new pond today. Put out my gear and then my friend had me hold his rod with a spinner for a few minutes. First cast I hook what I think was a monster. I tried to turn the reel 1 round but damn it was hard. Then I let it take the line to try and tire it out. After a few minutes I tried to reel it in again but then the line either snapped or the knot got loose. Either way it was gone :(

However this was my first hook in many years like 10+

if it's black it's probably braid line which is a good overall line but u may want to use a fluorocarbon leader...it will help you catch more fish

you don't have to worry about colors if you're on a boat

I swear fish can hear you...everytime we had a friend who was talking too much, we barely catch any fish and when we left the fucker at home, we catched alot more fish

Hey!

Just a few pointers here. When using this setup you may want to use a small triple hook(size 10) covered with this floating powerbait paste shaped like a ball so that the hooks dont show. The line coming from the weight is usually thinner than the main line (dunno whats it called in english) I maybe wrong but it sounds like youre trying to use some sort of jig as bait. Obviously that would not work here. The goal is to cast right into their "living room" and just wait and check your bait every now and then (5-10min intervals). Now all u hafta do is to adjust your reel(drag) loose and wait till the fish is on, tighten the drag and reel in. I Hope this helps. Good luck!
