there are way too many factors that determine what the 'best' lure to use is. it depends on water clarity, oxygen levels, current, cover, temperature, time of year, etc....

I use the same lures year round and don;t stop catching fish so that logic is fucking stupid. There's definitely lures that seem to work better in different environments. I believe you can pretty much answer all of those question's from my post but if you insist bill nye. It's summer time (time of year) which means the water is a bit warmer (temp). it's a lake so little to no current. generally lakes have a lot of weeds this time of year since they grow like fucking wildfire although some are clear most small lakes have lot's of weeds. oxygen levels well uhmm fish breathe air and there's lot's of fish so yes? hahaha. fucking bill nye

What logic is stupid? Just because you catch 1 fish a day all year doesn't mean with a different lure you couldn't catch 3, 4, or 10 a day all year long. Best = what catches the MOST fish, not just what catches fish.

Actually from your post, the only thing that can be determined is that its a lake, and not a reservoir or river. You didn't ask what will catch fish, you asked what was best. Summer lasts for 3 months, and there are multiple hatches and spawns for different species all usually at different times of the year, which affects what the bass are eating. 'Warmer' is not a temperature, its a generalization. And it also doesn't tell me what surface temperature is vs 10/20/30/etc... feet deep. There is more than just 'weeds' as cover. There are weeds on/near the surface, and weeds on/near the bottom, and even suspended weed beds. Finally, fish don't breathe air, they 'breathe' water. They extract the oxygen in the water through the capillaries in their gills. Oxygen levels vary with depth, temperature, underwater foliage, and a few other factors. They also tell you where you generally won't find fish, because there isn't enough oxygen for them to be very willing to feed. You haven't mentioned clarity at all, btw. Also, I forgot to ask what the primary baitfish is in the lake, my bad.

If all fishing is to you is throwing shit in the water until you start catching fish, that is totally fine, and I'm glad you enjoy it. But if you want to know whats best, then you have to answer a lot of questions, like the ones I asked. Even then, it won't necessarily tell you whats best, but it SHOULD point you in the right direction, and at the very least improve upon your success rates.

rat-l-trap

Spring- Use bright colors, white or chartreuse.

Summer- Water heats up and the fish slow down. They also are deep, waiting to ambush those unsuspecting shad over head. Summer you use shiny metallic Rat L Traps.

Fall
- Water is more clear and more color in the fish.
Light colors, along with like pearl, bone, and white.

I like to rig worms on a size 3-5 worm hook, with a small pinch weight depending on the size of the worm. The Yum Dinger is my favorite. I use that without a weight, on 70lb braid. All sorts of retrieve patterns should be used. I like to reel it across the top, through mats, sink/jig/quick retrieve and drop it in a new spot. As you know, most of the fish will hit it as it enters the water if you present it well enough. I typically always use natural colors, or purple. I also like fishing with nightcrawlers and a bobber. Nostalgic, and effective. I've caught some of my biggest catches on nightcrawlers.
