Hello there name's Brando.. opened up a road cycling thread to connect with other cyclists out there.. I'm currently pretty new to road cycling just got my first road bike almost 2 months ago and love the wind blowing in my face as I go 20-25 mph on residential streets.. I found that I have a passion for road cycling because I can exercise as well as have another great option of transportation that will save me money on gas from my minivan and see wonderful natural scenery on long trips. My in the future goal would be to race in the century rides and races including up to 200-300 + miles. So far my only experience is around the neighborhood and until a few people that I know set up a group ride, we should be doing around 30+ mile runs few times a week.

I would like for people to introduce themselves give a little history, what bike you have + specs, great places you've been, wrecks / injuries, etc
I'll start with my beginners set:
Bike - http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1072860_-1_45500_20000_45501
Helmet - http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1064481_-1_46500_20000_46503
Computer ( aka odometer, cadence ) - http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1028671_-1_46512_20000_47502
Glasses - http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1024707_-1_46500_20000_46503

Once I'm trained enough for 50+ mile rides and maybe even century races I'm saving for this setup:

Saddle - http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1032395_-1_46500_20000_46511
Tires - http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1035083_-1_400053_400013_400235

Hopefully when my buds get a group ride together.. I'll post some picks of our rides :]

I have tried Cycling.
It's suprisingly fun, and makes you feel great.
I do it as a recreational thing with friends.
Go out and rent a few bikes/gear from our local shop.
Never really been anywhere to great, or gotten hurt.
It's a great recreational sport imo.
Not something I could do daily.
I don't have the endurance.

I just love bikes in general though.

Nice gear btw.

I'm deciding to get a bike to exercise, to ride to work and exercise.
also trying to find a decent bike, not to expensive, what would you suggest?

this depends.. how long is your ride to work? How often / far do you plan on exercising? I can give you my opinion but I got mine from even better informed people than I at a website I can pm you it if you like they're really experienced in everything about bikes there I even found a group of people to ride with and they told me about the advantages and disadvantages about my bike.. if your looking for just something to do relaxed / mellow rides on then get a hybrid bike ( part road bike and part able to ride on trails which is good for exercising as well ) I own a road bike because I mainly travel by the road etc but ya my opinion is to get a bike that's in your price range and that completes what you like to do :] pming you a couple sites will explain in the pm.

I love biking when I'm on vacation someplace where there are a lot of mountains. When I'm home, I usually don't have the self discipline to keep training...

ya dude i love the scenery especially when you get to the top of a nice mountain ^ ^ I live west coast so seeing stuff up from Mt. Hamilton is just gorgeous
and ya I tend to lose my own dicipline while at home too because there's so many distractions lol but I try to ride like 3 times a week depending on my work schedule

The scenery is one thing, but the thing I do it for is because it's so hard. You feel every muscle in your body hurting like hell, knowing that it's still a long way to the top... That's the feeling I love.
