Friend is suddenly gitting the msg


"Unable to connect to battle net

if you are using a modem try doing all that crap and blah blah"

He's had this message all day. What can he do to fix?

turn off modem and turn it back on, or wait a hour and a half before trying to log back in, and close d2
when u have that message if u keep trying to login it resets the time, ive had it many times

probably he got a static ip ... then he may wait a bit
but usually it is lasting the whole day

Change his IP addy... If he can't do that, he'll have to go somewhere else to play, or sit it out until Blizzard decides they want to let him play again...

They're bastards some times. I hate tempbans.

reboot

goto run in the start bar

type in CMD hit ok

*note* make sure your pc is directly connected to your modem

type ipconfig /release

then type ipconfig /renew

this will probably fix it

also try pinging outside sites to make sure its not the connection itself

yea he just told me on aim and said he hasn't tried in 6hours so i told him it should be over and it still gave him message sad.gif. he uses a router so switching to direct modem connection should fix right?

no...

in order to do what i told you, your pc needs to be directly connected to the modem

because routers usually show as a separate ip address

No. His router shouldn't interfere at all with connecting to Battle.net.

d2hcx's advice isn't bad, but, if his ISP has him locked on a Static IP, hes screwed. However, if your friend has a Dynamic IP, he should be able to renew his IP addy (through his router, or directly connecting to the modem, depending on the make/model of the router), and then he should be able to connect with no problems.
