Anything that costs favor grants you exp. Doesn't matter if you list an item, buy an item or use gambling with npc. Favor spent will equal same exp whatever you do with it so do what you wish.
I'd suggest listing items as you can gain gold (doesn't need to be sold at all!) or buy stuff for 0 gold.
