You need to watch the 10 episodes tv version. I'm not sure if i'd recommend the prequel/ova/00 thing first, it ruins a bit of story for over half the series but sets it up in a crazy and cool way.
So many tears but in a beautiful way, up there with Ping Pong imo
This has fantasy/epicness/other world stuff without the vr cliche but it's still a touching family drama, just in a decent setting.
Just seen Gatchaman Crowds also, it's a bit more hit and miss but the first series ends up pretty transcendent also. The extra last episode (13/embrace) has to be seen though.
