What show(s) do you guys recommend I watch to get my foot in the door with anime? The only thing I ever watched as a kid was DBZ. I don't know if that counts as anime though.

maybe sword art or attack on titan? pretty recent and a good topic to discuss

So many suggestions! Thank you guys. Out of all these choices, are there any that have more action than the others?

imo watch the trailers for everything mentioned, see which hits your fancy. i was in your boat 4 years ago. death note was the first one i watched after dbz, then code geass, then full metal alchemist.

though i recommend you first watch dbz tfs if you were a huge dbz fan. just youtube it.

Not a bad idea I suppose. I was definitely a fan of DBZ so something kind of like that would be awesome.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is number one on most anime lists and has loads of action.
Hellsing:Ultimate is basically just action you wont get much story there (there is a story its just insignificant compared to the awesomeness, and also good if u want to see a lot of blood and nazi vampires bomb a huge swastika in modern day London)
Psycho Pass is also an action genre sci-fi.

but basically all my rec.s exept for Steins Gate (its still awesome as its number 2-3 on most sites aswell) and Zetsuen no Tempest have a lot of action going on.

if you want a shounen thats really long watch Bleach also a lot of action or Guilty Crown or even Naruto (I personally dislike this one)

also. go to www.myanimelist.net there you have the synopsis for every anime with user reviews and recommendations and a nice list based on ratings or popularity
