For now I could just weigh out the pros/cons.

Pros:

1. The fanbase is obnoxiously large, it's absurd.

2. Unlimited amount of story potential with a huge cast of characters.

3. Easily caters to type B fans, so it'll be a success.


Cons:

1. ZUN would have to sell his rights possibly, he couldn't supply enough story on his own and would have to rely on fanon.

2. With such a large amount of characters, the amount of fillers will be enormous due to back-story explanations.

3. Finding the wrong seiyuu can be detrimental.

4. The fanbase will get too large where tohofags will be the same/worse than narutards. (In a weebs-type way)

5. Fujoshits will complain Touhou needs more male cast.


There's a few pro/cons I missed for sure, but I'd say the cons would outweigh the pros and that's probably the reason ZUN refuses to serialize Touhou.

The big thing he mentioned was he didn't want his project to become commercialized.

I'm happy enough with fan-made creations. I wouldn't want to see it become tainted.

tl;dr - I wish rands would stop messaging me asking about Touhou becoming an Anime.

That's just one manga, there's several others you know. (Well maybe not several)

You can also consider all the "incidents" being the main object of the storyline. Several people wouldn't care for "fillers" just to see their own favorite character. Like I mentioned though, the only "backstory" that can possibly exist to high extent is all fanon.
