Hey guys my name is Mateo. I don't really watch much anime. Watched Naruto and Bleach back in high school (4 years ago). Anywho i stopped watching Naruto because i was getting tired of the super slow pace and no finality in the death or defeat of characters. I heard there is a later version of the naruto series as an adult but I am not fully interested in that. I enjoy bleach but again there is the similar problem of people not dieing. This makes me sound weird i know but it really irks me when there is no fear of death in the anime. What brought me back into looking into anime or manga was when my friend showed me Berserk which is a very adult manga series. From there the show Sword Art Online blew up this month and i was introduced to that through people playing League of Legends haha. You know it's popular when you find out about it through LoL. Anyway although SAO is not gory etc, I thought it was a pretty mature aniime and I enjoyed it immensely. WHen i use the word "adult" I just mean something Mature with adult concepts death, philosophical concepts etc. From there I went to Attack on Titan and this is by far the most adult anime I have watched (Berserk being the most adult but that is a manga). I am very interested in finding more anime shows that are on par with the maturity as Attack on Titan and I am blown away by the art in the series. I know the website anime crazy and looked at its top series but I have watched years ago a show called Hitman Reborn dealing with a baby mafia advisor to a kid and actually watched like 15 episodes but it is not something I would come back to and isn't the mature shows I am looking for.
If you guys have any advice I would love to hear! I literally had no idea anime with the seriousness/beautiful art of Attack on Titan existed and would love to be exposed to more.
-Mateo
(Sorry for the wall of text. TLDR: Attack on Titan is the most serious and intense anime I have watched and I am desperate for more. (And SAO just sucked me in somehow))

i wonder why everyone recommends monster..
the only anime which can compare with SAO currently is only Shingeki no kyojin, both of those contain HIGH-FEAR of death and action
i've watched monster until episode 40, and nothing really happend nobody died, and it was plain boring about a guy escaping from his home, disappearing, mystery.
Monster is probably the worst anime i've ever watched and ive dropped it at the half because NOTHING happend and it just sucked

Some good mature anime
Fate Zero + Fate stay night
Darker than Black
Baccano
Ghost in the Shell
Cowboy Bebop
and i think there is a small chance you might like these
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Hunter x Hunter 2011
Death Note
Code Geass
Definitely this in the order he listed.
I'd recommend
Neon Genesis Evangelion
It's somewhat confusing if you don't pick up the subtle messages/symbols but it's quite good. There's a alternate retelling of the anime that is less confusing.

The Gundam series
There is alot of them, each series is a different story. I personally liked Gundam seed + Gundam 00. There are a lot of different ones so take a look and read over the summaries.

Skip SD gundams, don't even look at it.
Deadman Wonderland
I've only read the manga, the manga is not bad so I don't think the anime would be that much worse.

Great Teacher Onizuka
There's no gore/killing in this. It's mostly a comedy and one of my favorite ones as well. Not sure if you like comedies

Angel Beats
There's some gore and killing in this. But people don't stay dead. You will see why if you watch it. Again it's mostly a comedy with some romance thrown in.

For Manga
Cage of eden
Lots of people die, somewhat like Jurassic Park.

Akame Ga Kiru
Lots of people die in this one as well. Including some of my favorite characters
http://myanimelist.net/manga.php?id=25132
The Breaker
Lots of fighting, very little killing. Written/drawn by a korean Manhwaga.
