I've watched enough anime to get a vague summary of what they are saying, but not word by word translations.

ive got the more common phrases and sentences down, but watching raw is still out of the question... for now.

You won't learn Jap by watching anime, just saying . Especially proper sentence structure .

Go to school , take some classes .

The "Adventures in Japanese" series of textbooks make it really easy to self teach and they cover a lot . They are used in classrooms as well .

Anime is great for vocabulary. Please don't try learning grammar through it.

/r/learnjapanese on reddit is a good place to start if you are serious about self learning.
