saw episode 1 and i've had a lot of recommendations towards this show, when does the show pick up?

The first 50 episodes or so are like the intro, where the original crew is gathered. There's a few decent mini-arcs in there. After that it really picks up though.

oh and O/P you are in for hundreds of episodes of filler, and that is no exaggeration...

It is true that it is probably the best one of The Big 3 imo.. still not something I would watch.. eh I should say finish.. I dropped it after like 120 episodes, I can't stand the art style.. but I got a few friends who like it.

and hey famous comedian David So is a fan and that guy is my hero so I won't jump right into bashing it like I would have a year ago xD

I would personally say when Sanji shows up is where it starts picking up
which is around episode 20-30 i believe

Like KitsuneYosh the first ~50 episodes is like an introduction to One Piece where Luffy first gets his crew after that begins the longer story arcs/sagas
It isn't for everyone but it is worth giving it a shot
