I'll be cosplaying in a few weeks.
June has crept up on me and I don't have my long picked outfit assembled at all. EEEP!
I intend to go as the ORIGINAL Thor (I look very much like him

)--not Ultimate (what you see in the new movies).
I'm probably going to make just about all of the costume, but if I can find some nice already done/made parts online, I'm fine with that.

What I'd like is some input on what items and materials I could use to make the parts to the outfit.
I've been scouring the net for ideas of how to assemble things--have some in mind.
Here is what the original Thor looks like:

Although most of my costume isn't going to be foam (pretty much just the detailed parts are going to be), I think using techniques from this video will make creating each part of the costume much easier:
I found a pretty good hammer so far...
http://www.halloweencostumes.com/thor-movie-hammer.htmlIt's the newer hammer, but the differences are so small (the way it leather gripping is wrapped about it, along with the head of the hammer being a little different) & it's cheap and looks good enough, I think...
If anyone finds better, definitely post up!
Going to use tights for the light blue part of the leggings; possibly use Under Armor.
Wrist bands are easy.
Can likely buy them, or easily create my own.
Cape is easy.
Plan: I'll place a slit in the chest/armor piece. Then, I'll place a buckle in around the shoulders. The other part of the buckle will be along the underside of the cape. Should (hopefully) make for a nicely flowing cape.
Boots, I'm probably going to have to buy some fairly random knee high boots and add some sort of yellow tape/fabric to them...possibly paint the base of the foot part.
May have to shape some foam for the part by the knee. Suggestions on that? Different material?
For the belt...hmm, some fabric and add foam for the details of it, while using self added buckle underneath?
Maybe pleather with the foam and buckle?
Helmet...I've been having trouble with this. I was hoping to buy one online, but there are absolutely NONE (with the exception of a collectible one that runs $300-400). Everything seems to be the Ultimate Thor style. I can't even find an original costume to snag the helmet from. o.O
Current plan of attack: Get just the helmet part with the spike at the top. Then, using sheets of foam, create the wings. I am not skilled enough with arts & crafts to do a plaster modeling.
Remember, sculpting the wings out of some material may work for the look, but they'll likely be brittle and be at danger of breaking easily (not something I want to have to worry about).
Outer underwear and chest piece...
My current idea is to start with pleather. Is anyone knowledgeable on how peleather comes/would come out? Holds its shape well enough? Hot glue WILL be fine to use on it, right?
If pleather is a viable way to go, I'd cut/shape it into what I need. As already said, I'd do what is needed for the cape.
Spots will then be cut out for the shiny nodes on the outfit.
Any ideas on what to use for the nodes? I think some shiny spray paint may due the trick so that I may use whatever has the proper shape (notice: the nodes are rounded--think semi-spheres).
I think I'm going to use velcro underneath to keep the nodes in place.
For the back of the piece, I think I'm going to run velcro along there for easy on/off; I may also want to add 1-3 buckles (top, middle, bottom) for the extra secure hold (don't want to flex/spread my lats and accidentally have the velcro undo!).
Okay...I think I have went through all of the parts to do.
Please note: I want to keep this within a reasonable price for things...$100 boots are not something I'd like to be buying.
