Let me know what you think. I've seen Full Metal Alchemist quite a few times over the years, and am now working on the last season of the Botherhood. Way more different than I was expecting, lol.

Personally, I definitely like how the characters are portrayed much better in FMA, but still have to finish to judge the story lines. FMA has a few incongruencies that I can ignore, (couple examples at bottom), but I doubt they'll be the determining factor.

Couple examples of incongruencies: the alchemy in first two episodes didn't even make sense to how alchemy works and throughout the show it shows Alphonse in water multiple times, but towards the end when he falls in water everyone freaks out that his seal might be compromised.. and when it's not it's b/c of the stone he's become.

Let me know your thoughts! (no spoilers please!)

I liked the original cause it was forward yet enjoyable to watch, Brotherhood was ok as well cause it was longer and followed everything from the manga. but I do prefer the Original show. :)

Original had a quite lot of filler trips, but once you got the end the story that unfolded was just breathtaking. ^_^

Planned to put in a "Saw both, cannot choose!" option, but forgot, lol. I really just wanted to eliminate the people who've only seen one and liked it so much they felt the need to vote for it.

FMA does a better job at introducing the world and characters and has better pacing in the beginning of the show.

Brotherhood is the superior overall though in my opinion. The story is consistently awesome with more depth and twists and it has a higher production value with better looking characters and animation.
The comedy bits felt overdone at times and the beginning of the show feels rushed in comparison to the first version but that's pretty much my only real issues. I would maybe have liked to see a bit more bittersweet ending but I'd probably regret ever saying so if it had one :p

Thanks for some real input! This is the kind of stuff I was looking for.

I definitely see all the crazy twists and turns you're talking about, but I'm not sure yet if I prefer them or not. Really just gotta finish the few episodes I have left to make a fair judgement.

However, my utter biggest problem is I grew up with FMA and just love the characters and how they unfold. Watching this one I'm constantly thinking "That's not Scar! That's not Major Armstrong! That's not Fuhrer Bradley! etc!"... lol.

Kay, back to watching, I'll post here again when I've finished it.

e/ and for the record, the Botherhood was done 5 years later, a lot of advancements in animation were made by then, so that's not really a fair thing to compare imo. :p

original gives the 'FMA' feel

brotherhood is missing the entire dark side that makes FMA good
