Hope this topic gets a good discussion going. I was following the anime and then decided I couldn't resist the manga any longer, so I read the 80 or so chapters to catch up, and WOW, so many questions are burning me up right now lol, this being the biggest!

The options I put up there are just some things I've heard around. I personally think a lot of them are ridiculous.

Vote and discuss! I'll give you my current reasoning but right now it is almost impossible to predict, which is what makes this particular story so amazing right now, so I might change my mind if you have good reasoning!

My Guess
I personally think that Tobi is Izuna Uchiha. For starters, there's an obvious connection between Itachi/Madara and Sasuke/Izuna. They even look almost identical. Also, we have a lot of recurring themes with generations, such as the sannin and team 7, and the senju and uchiha / naruto and sasuke. We know that Madara took Izuna's eyes, and we cannot be sure about Izuna's death since we learned about it from a story Tobi told Sasuke (pretty sure that is) which makes the information unreliable.

The sharingan and rinnegan play a role in all of this obviously. Just like Madara/Izuna, Sasuke now has Itachi's eyes. That's yet another parallel that we can't ignore.

We also know that Madara claims to have awoken the Rinnegan at his death battling the 1st hokage. So think about how the sharingan and rinnegan work: you need to kill your closest friend to awaken the MS, and you need to implant your sibling's eyes to get the EMS. We know that the rinnegan is the next step up. But HOW do we awaken it? A cool theory I heard is that by sacrificing yourself, you awaken the rinnegan in someone else. Tobi told Konan that he gave Nagato the rinnegan. Remember, Madara is using IZUNA'S eyes, so can't we argue that Izuna was the one who unlocked the rinnegan?

We also know that the rinnegan is the power that controls life and death. Maybe this means that Nagato's awakening of the rinnegan could have revived Izuna, or Izuna was never actually dead. The whole rinnegan thing is a little farfetched but they are ideas that I can't shake.


I'm gonna rule out some other people now:
We need someone who is old enough to have been an adult during the nine-tails attack, which eliminates the first and second hokages, and Obito who would have been the age of a prepubescent Kakashi. Also Obito is completely insignificant and irrelevant to the plot save the fact that he gave Kakashi his sharingan.

I believe that in order to prevent chakra drainage, you need to either have a sharingan covered (like Kakashi) or you need to be an uchiha. Tobi always has one exposed, meaning he has to be an uchiha in my opinion.

That leaves only Izuna, Kagame, Shisui, Madara Clone.

I believe Shisui is dead because both Itachi and Danzo have talked about his death and his eyes. They seem reliable to me. Why would Shisui give up his powerful eyes to people who would use them against him as Tobi? That's silly.

I think a Madara clone would seem very dry, and I think Tobi would have said he was a clone when he discovered the real Madara has been summoned. He doesn't have much of a reason to hide it. Doesn't rule him out completely but thats my opinion.

This leave Kagame and Izuna. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Kagame was Tobi, but I'm sticking with Izuna because of the above information. There is a good argument for Kagame as well.



Anyways, if you read my guess, thanks ^_^ hope we can get a fun discussion going.

Still this discussion has be going on for months in that thread and it's still unanswered because no one has any idea of who Tobi might be.

Gained memory about the past in secret Uchiha rooms
Interacted with a resurrection of Madara at one point via edo tensei (or whatever it's called) to ask questions, released the jutsu when he was done allowing him to be rez'd again.
Was weak until now because of the whole Rock Crush Face thing, spent a lot of time recovering.
Has power of beast, is strong now.

YAY OBITO!

Note, this is all made up, and more than likely isn't true at all.. but I want it to be Obito, I want it to be revealed as he kills Kakashi for real, and which will cause Naruto to rage and get on the next level. Then the real Madara will kill the Hokage, Naruto will kill everyone that opposes him, Sasuke will be lost in the woods Naruto will be Hokage, Orochimaru will come back via Kabuto, Time Lapse... still searching for Sasuke, Orochi is back with some random ass half kabuto powers, Random new super strong ninja appear out of nowhere... and then we go completely down hill because the author doesn't want to end it because it's sort of you know... how he makes money.

I thought all along he was madara...

I only watch the episodes and "tobi" just switched to a new mask a white and black..
