whats an ova lol?

ive watched a few series now and there is like seprate ova parts , its a movie right?? lol

an original creation thats not based off its reading material counterpart

theres some exceptions though like Hellsing OVA but someone else came out with an adaptation before so they were forced to tag OVA on

ahh ok it makes alot more sense now lol

It stands for Original Video Animation and basically means that it's released directly into to the video market without airing on television or movie theatres first.
This allows for more irregular releases with products often rivaling anime movies in video quality. It naturally also allows putting in adult content and such without repercussion.
