Gintama follows short episode arcs (1-2), right?
Does that mean I can pretty much start off anywhere (like Mushishi)?
Does that mean I can start off on the second launch of Gintama (Gintama') and still know what's going on?

Might be best to start from the first few episodes since that is where they introduce most of the characters
After that yea you can pretty much watch the episodes however you want except there might be some characters you have not seen before and you might not understand some inside jokes
Most episodes of gintama follow this either 1-2 stories or 1 story per episode then later you reach the arcs which reach anywhere between 2-x episodes.


I could say it is possible to start from Gintama' but you might not understand it completely and be left out on a lot of the jokes and stuff.

But which ever case watch anyways because it is hilarious plus you can always go back and watch the rest of the episodes.

So, you're saying I should watch the first 5/10 episodes, then just go off wherever?
I don't think I'll be able to watch 201+ episodes anytiime soon

I could list my favorite episodes or those that are worth watching right now you can then watch the rest whenever u have time

So how far into the first few episodes should I watch, is 5 enough?

ummm if I remember correctly the first ~2 episodes just show you every main character that will appear in the show then after that it starts how the 3 mains meet so it should be around 5 or so episodes just for the 3 mains. I can't really remember. (also the start of Gintama is not the best which causes a lot of people to drop it)

but according to these people http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=290991&show=0 it might be better to just completely watch the original first

It really depends if you don't mind being a bit lost on jokes and character development that much I can make a list of like the most important episodes or so
