She used bankai.

a bankai we know nothing about it could be like ichigos that gives him speed, tousens that removes senses, ikkakus that only gives power sorta like the 7th captain or soifons. yeah its a trump card but in some cases it doesnt really augment the person much.

not to mention as of now we honestly have no idea if she has loss or if he has fully recovered. so again i dont get how he only now realizes her power to be that of "death" was he so beneath her previously?

Guess we'll just have to wait til next chapter.

I don't know, I find this whole Unohana/Kenpachi story lame. I wished Kubo had used Unohana in a battle with a sternritter, or even Juha Bach. We should see her in a long fight, and using all of her abilities(Kidou, Shikai, Bankai, Sword Mastery) in a fight. Then even if she lost, it wouldn't feel so much like a cheap death. I think Unohana will die, it seems fitting if she does, as the two bloodthirsty captains from 1000 years ago would finally be extinct. Losing their best healer would certainly cripple the SS as well( unless kirinji or w/e his name is helps Byakuya master kidou LOL).

This surprises you? Ichigo was a human who learned Bankai faster than any Captain ever besides Uruhara; a child being Kenpachi aint that shocking.

Also, I'm considering that Unohana's Bankai has some form of resurrection properties like the Espada did in Hueco Mundo.
