akatsuki are mercenaries... they help ppl for a price, and since the person who needs help was the leader of their home village, there was more emotion behind it... ultimately they were ambushed.

But i thought the story was hanzo + danzou team up and scrape them.
Also, i thought the akatsuki (before it became big and badass) was just another army in the village of rain?

ok here's the story.. hanzo hired the akatsuki to lure them into a trap and annihilate them..... he pretty much lured them to the bottom of a cliff/hill thing where he captured konan and forced nagato to kill yahiko and in case there was gonna be rebellion, he teamed up with danzo just to be safe with backup because they were growing in reputation and might overthrow him.

he casted a teleportation jutsu before the gedo statue move hit him

so i wonder if the earth quake will cause a stop on the manga
