when he showed up at the auction house and used his haki, none of the straw hats were knocked out. i think my argument is pretty valid.

Straw Hat crew > about 90% of the whitebeard crew. I'd reckon the commanders and white beard himself would pose the biggest problems to the crew. But I feel like the terrible 3 (sanji / zoro / luffy) could take on even some of the weakest commanders 1 on 1.




Haki is selective. You can choose who it effects and who it doesn't. You can notice the little mermaid they were with didn't faint either.

it isnt that selective, u cant just pick targets 50+ feet away and fire off spirit gun blasts of haki at individual opponents.
Raleigh sent a pulse of his haki infront of him, knocking out anyone too weak to withstand it.
the mermaid chick wasnt infront of him, so she didnt get hit by it. at least not directly.

it doesnt matter where the person is
rayleigh took time to examine the situation
doesnt matter if anyones in front of him or not
he can just pick out who he wants to hit haki with

the expressions of the straw hats after he used his haki clearly shows they were hit by it.
also why would Raleigh take the time to do that for such weak opponents?

this way he is able to see how strong Luffy and his crew are.

i dont know about range, but it can be in any direction

but the straw hats were indeed hit by it (even if he is able to choose who he wanted to hit, there wouldnt be much point since Luffy and his crew should be able to easily withstand it by this point in time)
it also gives Raleigh a good chance to test their ability.
