meh i could argue this because of how strong he is, if he was ordered to assassinate the 1st then people must of held a great deal of respect for him in his village to be at the level to kill the most powerful ninja in the world at that moment in time, and that he had this strength and fought in the war he would get well known for doing well in the battles etc

i mean sanin got there name in the 2nd war so did the white fang, 4th got the name yellow flash and kakashi got the name copy ninja in the 3rd war my point is people get noticed in wars and its only reasonable to assume he fought in the 1st world war

we know for a fact the brothers did, they were apart of the group that was hunting down the 2nd hokage and his team

doesn't mean he's well known, just means the leader of his village viewed him as most capable... sai was ordered to assassinate sasuke, but only a handful of people knew who he is... they're pretty much branched under somebody
