Yeah. Kishi had absolutely no idea he would be doing this arc at the time, or developing the head captain's lieutenant like he did. Besides, Ichigo was captain level back then. It's not unrealistic that he dealt with him that easily.

i think aizen said fights between shinigami was a fight between reatsui and ichigo clearly has everyone beat maybe not the 1st and kenpachi

now ofc a punch seems sort of ridiculous but i mean kishi specifically states that the liet trained his bankai not kido not swordsmanship nor footwork just his bankai an dhe used his shikai to try and stop ichigo either way he vowed to do what the commander could not and fighting is definitely his number 1 trait

i think it was just convenient to kill him off first since he probably had the least amount of writing and depth of all the characters...at the time
