Lol, yes, I have a pen-tool rendering tutorial I just bumped after forever and a day ago in the graphic design Q&A and Tutorials section.
That should help you get started with it, cutting out characters from wallpapers I mean..it helps you get a better feel for the pen tool.

im attempting to blame it on my mouse, but somepeople can do it real well with it

maybe ill practice other time, spent about 20 mins in it and frusturated cuz so far, its the hardest thing

I use a laptop touchpad mouse..lol. Don't blame it on your mouse.
