if i wanted to start watching Macross, do i have to watch all the earlier ones or can i just watch Frontier? nn to dawdle my time with 100 eps of 1980/90s anime >.<

Hey guys, don't normally post here but I have some free time to burn so thought I'd watch a new series.

First off, I haven't been so big into anime for a long time, so I probably have not seen much. Most recently have seen Berserk, Desert Punk, and Claymore and thoroughly enjoyed all three. I'm looking for something similar to any of these three, and nothing too long (all these animes are ~25 episodes, but willing to see something longer if it's good).
