This is something I've wondered about. Aizen knew that Yama could own him 1 on1 from the start, but my guess is that Aizen and Ichigo were fighting at a level above his bankai. Then again, Yama's shikai powers were about to destroy the whole damn city if he didn't stop them. I wonder what his bankai can do... Did Yama ever get his arm back? It would make sense that he does, Orihime can heal that right up.

yama's zanpaktou is oldest and strongest one so aizen had to remove that advantage from him in fight
