You don't really know, they have a near 360 degree range of vision, with a blind spot at the back of the neck. Ironically the enhanced vision makes Byakugan users much more vulnerable to visual genjutsu.

EDIT: So unless you're standing in their blind spot, they can see you.

Byakugan is only an eye technique... what makes the byakugan usefull is the hyugas taijutsu abilitys which enable them to shut down the chakra flow in someones body... byakugan only lets u see that specific thing... where as sharingan sees everything else and that, they just dont know the same taijutsu as the hyuga clan

if sharingan only had the first form it would still be better than byakugan because it can perceive hand to hand combat, study and learn a technique in seconds, and be able to use amazing genjutsu

byakugan has... nothing other than sight.

You also gotta remember that they both come with badass bodies and talent to be able to harness the abilities. When it first came out I doubt the author had intended to make the sharingan the way it is now.

the shargian is the love/brain child of the author thats why its so super freaking rare but every one has it

I liked it better when characters could actually contribute without being born with OMGWTFHAX powers or cheating their way into power because the author wanted them to have it (sasuke and naruto both)

its not as bad as ichigo from bleach
that char is born with godmode in that series

its getting that way naruto it was actually stated from teh start he was born with god mode (the fox)

and his dad was a god so was his his dad teacher / his teacher

and kakashi is a semi god

and naruto is decedent of the #1 god the sage of 6 paths

etc..

how is it getting that way

naruto's power/boost has an origin, which is the fox
where did ichigo get his power from
nowhere, it just popped out of nowhere and he achieved it
there are genius captains that supposably appear every millions of years yet ichigo even surpasses their skill lvl with no specific training or teaching from a high lvl teacher
he learned it all himself
