imo madara used izangi to escape being killed by the 1st and thus doing so completely sealed away one of his eyes then he poped that bitch out the defected one with another uchiha eye and the has been collecting them from that point hence the 113 eyes showed on his wall and he swaps eyes out at will always keeping one of his eyes his original eye cause its EMS,

just my theory, and i would assume he could use the rinnigian him self due to the shargian is a decedent jutsu of the rinigian

Well said . That is probablly why he is missing an eye . I also think that Once you lose EMS then theres no way to get it back . Even if you get 12312312 more eyes .
Madara could very well be just hoping for sasuke to get ems then just snatch them away from him for himself .
