i've never considered anime high quality visual art because i know most of it is animated in a way that would save the animation studios some money, and requires minimal effort to draw. however, anime is not 100% visual art and should not be judged as such. storytelling, characterization etc should also be part of your criticism (though i agree the vast majority of anime and any other medium has shoddy writing and a lot of cheese to it). the OP does not take into account this fact making his judgment invalid and incomplete. his belittling attitude towards those who disagree doesn't help either.

to those making the subjectivity argument - please don't bother with it. i could call the turd i took yesterday a masterpiece and come up with a million reasons to support this idea but ultimately it doesn't mean i put in a lot of effort to create the thing. that's why we have to have set standards by which we compare and judge things.

No, I think it's self evident why it's bullshit. To say that art cannot be judged or graded on any standard is to say that art is pointless.

I've explained why anime is a mediocre art form. The rest of this thread I've simply been responding to the same idiotic statements re-stated a hundred different ways.
If I said anime was great art, nobody would be accusing me of stating "opinion" as fact.
