Just saw 1st epsidoe, i dont recall them using relics in the first one, maybe its just been too long.

yeah they dont really talk about it in the fate stay night anime... if you played the visual novel or read the manga they explain it more.
that is why shirou summoned saber tho, because he had the scarab to excalibur inside him for his relic.

I don't think she's 18. Rin and Emiya are in highschool in FSN. They are about 5 in FZ and Ilya was born within that time.
