Er it's not that they're an illusion, it's that he's seeing shit that isn't necessarily there, which is I guess an illusion or delusion but it's not necessarily accurate to state it's "all" an illusion.

Perhaps Aizen used Kyouga suigetsu on us before getting captured.

perhaps he did it before the series even began!
