again, it's just a theory that makes a lot of sense, and i don't see a reason that it should be discredited based on what we know about the avatar so far... but if u have a clear and valid reason to disprove this theory, feel free to comment.

I think the author purposely did not bring it out until the last fight.
The only other theory is that the Antagonist have meet the Lion Turtle and it taught him how to take the bending away.

but you're right about roku, he did contact him to ask what to do about the firelord, but aang said he wasn't standing on normal rock from the lion turtle... and the turtle is one of the four great beasts, so maybe that's how he was able to talk to roku.... avatar wiki also said that he used the lion turtle to connect roku with aang for that meeting

also i think amon met one of the other 4 great beasts to learn energy bending

Was the giant owl in the sinking library one of the four beast? That's where the Lion Turtle was first mention.

Unless with the stories technological progression, they might have uncovered the sinking library and learned it from one of the scrolls.

I do have the feeling that Korra might be the last Avatar and stops the cycle on purpose.
