no not really, some people are better with spears rather than swords.
kinda like how it was in sword of the stranger, the dude who sparred with that highly skilled ming in the dojo.

No I mean, why can't it be a spear made out of steel? It's just stupid. His sword is steel, his bankai is steel, but his shikai is a shitty wooden spear.

Btw as far as shikais go, Hisagi's Kazeshini is my favorite.

We already saw Unohana's bankai. It's a big flying stringray that can heal the wounded in it's stomach. xD

We have yet to see Urahara's bankai, too.

I wonder if Isshin's bankai is different from Ichigo's. Their soul slayers seem to be related. :/

If Unohanas shikai was so enormous, I can't imagine how big her bankai would be. That was definitely a bankai.
