and some seem to think madara used it to escape death aginst the 1st and thats how he survied and thats why he only shows 1 eye  cause he lost the other eye at the cost of staying alive

this could also explaine why he is a ghost of his former self cause he can only use 1 eye,  but i dont know if he could swap out the closed eye and replace it with  one of the countless other eyes he poses ,
