probably because the admiral wanted to know why he had so much pull for a warlord and his is boasting to law why his plan was going to fail from the start

I think the admiral already knew but yeah he was just telling law how bad he screwed up. Law thought that the marines would want nothing to do with dd if he quit being a warlord. It turns out hes a celestial dragon so the marines/world government wouldnt just turn their backs on him no matter what.
