that was the only time it was mentiond to him but naruto is so stupid and what he said was so vague he probaly couldnt put 2 and 2 together.

i would have to say that itachi other than probablly kakashi and madara, and now naruto with sage mode
was probablly the best person in the whole story.
altho he had his limitations with his sharingan did he even need it half the time?
if kakashi could kill zabuza (one of the demon swordsmen just as kisame) with just sharingan
whos to say itachi couldn't have done the same thing with kisame? considering itachi is probablly stronger then kisame.
although i love kisame, he has nothing to particularly counter act anything itachi can do Except maybe having more chakra.
itachi's only fear i think. was if he had battled madara, i think he thinks he would have lost, or when he did lose madara had sasuke.
even though with all his preparations madara still got sasuke.
madara is already majorly weakened by the first.
whos to say itachi can't kill him..

i don't think the only gift itachi gave sasuke was the anti amaterasu posed on madara.
i think there was a deeper gift still locked within sasuke.
as for narutos gift its probablly something to help sasuke see the light. and no not his eyesight.
or its linked with what i just said.
