well i don't know what manga you're reading but they look pretty much the same (other than the difference in detail and slight look changes which is normal for anime).
The manga only has 1 volume and starts pretty much where the anime is at now so you never see Akatsuki's transformation or them meeting up or even fighting those PKrs.

Such things might have been covered in the Novel though since that's what Log Horizon is based off of, but i haven't seen it anywhere so it's probably untranslated so it's hard to check.
