i am really having some trouble with legend of korra
like, the most enjoyable moments of watching the show are when i am learning about the characters from the first Avatar series via flashback or reminiscent dialogue. that seems like a bad thing
Of course, I just marathon'd Avatar: the Last Airbender and finished it approximately ~4-5 days ago, and it was absolutely fucking amazing, so i'm probably biased
but Legend of Korra just seems so paltry compared to the Last Airbender. The quest is so trivial and small scale. Aang went to SAVE THE ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD FROM A 100-YEAR LONG WAR, CURRENTLY IN THE HANDS OF ONE OF THE BIGGEST BADDIES EVER while Korra is playing vigilante in the city fighting random masked villains. She has no Epic Quest, she's literally stumbling around blind trying to become a 'good enough Avatar.' She's just trying to live up to society's expectations. Aang had to do so, so, so much more than that.
Bo Lin is no Saaka but he has his moments. Also, the 1930's theme news for the summary of the plot at the beginning of episodes was fun at first, even fitting for republic city, but now makes no sense that they're in the south pole. wtf.
Other than that though, the animation is great, the characters interact well, they are fun to watch and draw the audience in. It just doesn't even scratch The Last Airbender imo and i find that saddening.
