Not sure, my first solid memories are from when I was 3 years old (so around 1992) and by then I was already watching:
Dragon Ball
Dragon Ball Z
Captain Tsubasa
Doraemon
Haha wo Tazunete Sanzenri ( aka: Marco/3000 Leagues in Search of Mother//From the Appenines to the Andes)
Saint Seiya
Dr Slump
Kinnikuman (aka: Muscleman)
Dash Kappei!
Ranma 1/2
Mitsubachi Maya no Bouken (aka: Maya the Bee)
bolded the ones I would watch everyday no matter what and I really, really liked
that being said, at age 3, these were just cartoon to me....
Clannadwas what got me into watching anime on a somewhat regular basis. I had taken a brief course in japanese and I figured watching japanese movies would be somewhat helpful to my listening skills; when I began to run out of movies I thought "why not try anime?" and I asked an otaku friend of mine for some suggestions. Clannad was the one I watched first, I thought it was amazing how it played with emotions and I really enjoyed it. As I continued watching anime I realized there was some really good stuff out there and I kept watching more and more.
DR SLUMP HELL YEAH

I was able to watch the few old school greats though.
Evangelion
Ghost in a Shell
Akira (The movie)
Then she introduced me to Lucky star and hell just froze over.
Evangelion is like one of the best anime series ever dreamt up .
