not really, they're both anthro animals and that's the main point to categorize it.
hell even the term anthro is used less these days in favor of Furry/Furries.
despite that being the actual term to encompass it all.

i'd probably blame some of those popular furry websites too.
when you name your website literally Furr(so on) it'll probably have people calling all the content furry.
even more so in the eyes of people not into it but know of the sites and content.
years later now there's really no difference.

you know.....artists?
The majority of artists don't post their stuff directly to an image dump site like that.
therfore the artists followers follow them on said sites usually because it gives people notifications of new content if said site has that function.
or if there's a feed to show new posts.
