i never watched the OVA's but the Movie was pretty lacking and i feel didn't really show enough for you to really care about it.
probably because just like that GANTZ netflix movie, they just took a random spot and started from there.

it didn't feel as much like the Manga i read, nor did it look as visually appealing.
Blame was very much about it's background art and environments and i feel it fell short on that.
at least for a 3D CG movie it had a budget and looked pretty nice.

i find it funny that a manga like BLAME! can get a quality anime movie where as something as big as BERSERK can't.
