No, I'm French, but my name is also Louise. I do like to cosplay and imitate as Louise from Zero no Tsukaima, though. tongue.gif She's my favorite character ever. heart2.gif

Liar, fate's your favorite character.

Started up Girls Bravo today, seems decent but not too promising.
Got bored around chap 8, but finished 2nd volume up to chapter 12.

I just finished Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou and it is one of the best mangaI've ever read . It takes place in the future, when the sea levels have risen and as a result the large scale infrastructure of society have collapsed and the local community has become the largest and most important factor in people's lives. The protagonist is a female robat named Alpha who runs a small coffee shop by the sea. This manga is slice of life to the extreme, following Alpha's daily existence and her interactions with her neighbors and friends. Now if you're looking for action, stay away, there is none whatsoever. If you're looking for anything more than hints of romance, you won't like this manga much. If you like tons of comedy, well look elsewhere, YKK has very few funny moments. However Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou doesn't need any of that. It's amazing the way it is.

I'd recommend this to ANY slice of life fan, and even if you don't normally like the genre try the first chapter or two. You may stay at Cafe Alpha longer then you expected to.

I've read (or dropped) every single manga that people have said they've completed or talked about in this thread @__@. I wish someone would give me something new for once in my life (but also good T__T).

So, in light of this thought, I decided to bring to you a completely unique manga which recently gained entry into my favorites:

Nijigahara Holograph

Synopsis
Suzuki is a troubled boy. He's lived with uncaring foster parents for most of his life, alienated from the other kids at his school, owner of a cynical, unhappy mentality. Komatsuzaki is a violent, unpredictable bully whose head trauma causes him to act in mysterious, inexplicable ways. Arakawa is a no-nonsense, normal girl who pines after Komatsuzaki but can never have him. A teacher with just one working eye. A mother who committed suicide. A daughter in an endless coma. Attempted rapes, murders, extortion, sexual deviance, and a freakish explosion in the butterfly population. All of these elements are whirled together in a story spanning 10 years, a tale of blackness, pain and apocalypse. And maybe just a bit of hope and redemption. It's a spiritual cross between the misanthropic suburban malevolence of Kyoko Okazaki's Rivers Edge and the eerie mysticality of Donnie Darko.

My comments:

Nijigahara Holograph is what I've completed most recently. It's a masterpiece in more ways than one, and a manga you will certainly have to look back on in order to fully understand everything that happens in it; certainly it is one of the most complex manga I've ever read. All this being said, it goes down as one of my top 5 favorite (out of the tons and tons of manga I've read), but in order to fully appreciate this manga you have to be open to such complexities that are offered here.

This manga is certainly NOT for those who ONLY enjoy more shallow type manga stories (i.e. Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Bitter Virgin, most romantic comedies etc.), though people who enjoy those (I enjoy some of them myself) could certainly find themselves liking this manga if they have an open mind.

I just read Hotel (oneshot) and liked it immensely. It's about this artificial construct built by humanity to house the DNA and records of humans and other Earth lifeforms (they also send a similar construct into space), as extreme global warming has caused the extinction of all life on the planet.

I love science fiction (Stephan Baxter is amazing) and it was nice to read a sci fi manga, that took a hard sci-fi approach instead of Gundam or something.
