i think he felt guilty for killing his parents friends and family and neighbors and grandparents and children so he felt the revenge sauske was unleashing on him was justified and he embraced the pain as payment for his deeds so he let himself be cut and punched and hurt by the one person who he though had the right to the one person who was the only connection to his life before he did this horrible act his only link to sanatiy and a life of happiness.

I just wish we could have seen Itachi's real god-awesomeness, and I wonder how powerful Jiraiya really was since Itachi said "If we fight him now, both the Uchiha and 7 swordsman of the mist will have their names dragged through the mud" considering he only died because he didn't figure out it was Nagato until the very end.

he measured the odds and he figured his clan dieing was a better option then the whole village dieing because of the revolt his clan//dad was planing it was a matter of keeping the most alive with the least death.
he was told if the revolt happend and village would be weak they would be invaded by another great nation.

he was thrust into war at age 6 or something and death affected him and he grew to hate war and death and wanted the least of it.

Soo thats why he let sauske kill him he accepted the pain as punishment for killing his clan even thought it was the lesser of the 2 evils
