Okie dokie. We all know what Bible Black is correct? Then I'll just get straight to the point. If you don't know what it is, it's very easy to find out.
Bible Black is a top selling anime in Japan, which turned into an addictive OVA and has fans from around the globe. Despite it's initial appeal as strictly eye candy, this anime holds much symbolism and religious meaning behind this excellent series.
Bible Black revolves around Minase, the main character who finds an old book containing spells which cause lust and heartache. At first it seems all his dreams come true, but he gets much more than he bargained for. He is seduced by a demonic woman with a darker purpose, and thus the story lunges into a ritual that takes place 12 years ago.
Bible Black has several misleading reviews from major anime sites. People judge Bible Black before viewing the series in its entirety. When it comes to any sort of entertainment, people should view them with an open mind anyways. At first glance, Bible Black seems to be a sexualized college story, but there is much more to this.
For starters, none of the characters are easy to define. Minase, the protagonist begins casting spells for purely selfish reasons. He wanted the student body president Shiraki just to have her, no emotional desire whatsoever. He raped Takashiro,(the art teacher indirectly responsible for everything bad that has happened), willingly, and when he sodomized Imari,(the girl-next-door who has always had a crush on Minase. Throughout the series, her love for Minase never waivers), he was slow at start but ended up participating anyways. The story is about a tale of a man and the woman in his life. At first he begins by trying to gather magical powers, but along the way he realizes that some things are more important than power, and risks his life to save Imari. He is better for doing this, because he learns a valuable lesson. Takashiro is one of the main women in the series. She also seeked magic for personal gain, but lost control, and is indirectly responsible for what happened to Kitami. Kitami is the hermaphrodite nurse that the series opens with. She was a victim turned villian. She is not entirely responsible for her later actions, because of the demon that inhabits her body, and because of the tramatizing rape she was subjected to. Ultimately, the story depicts how Minase got the bible, how he caused suffering, and his eventual redemption of himself.
If you give Bible Black a chance, you will drawn into the complex story and the lives of the characters (Like myself). Every year, new hentai on the market try to supercede Bible Black, but it will always stand tall, because of it's story. The character designs and art are top of the line, and the music fits perfectly with the mood. The rich mythology is based on historical events to create the backstory, and the story itself is layered with numerous sub-plots.
Bible Black has intensive Catholic/Christian symbolism. Reduced to it's simplest form, Bible Black is a biblical allegory of original sin, in a modern setting and sexual tone. As you view the series, you begin to wonder what exactly the story is about. A symbol is strengthened by repetition, and Bible Black seemlessly enforces the principles of Good vs Evil; Man vs Woman; Youth vs Age; Loner vs "In the Crowd"; and Christianity vs Satanism. Takashiro is the Eve figure. She was powerless and unimportant. She ate the fruit of knowledge, unleashing depravity and rape, all for her own self-gain. She eventually felt remorseful, but it was all too late. Her punishment, is her survival. Every day she lives with the guilt of her actions. However, even without any magic, Takashiro held appeal to Minase, breaking the student-teacher taboo, and also providing as a mother figure for him. Minase comes from a broken home, living with his stepsister, while his parents are never home. Kitami, suffered for twelve long years, and her soul is destined to Hell, for the demon which resides in her body. She was betrayed by her friends, brutally raped, and murdered by the people she knew. Kitami is represented as a Lilith figure. She is confident in her sexuality, and not willing to bend to a man's will. She is generally represented as a sadist, but from a student's view, she is a mysterious and beautiful lady. It is unsure of whether she is still sane, or whether any of the original Kitami remains, but she lives knowing that her soul will burn in Hell. Minase is the Adam figure. He is handsome and intelligent, but alone. He wants Shiraki, but she doesn't even know he exists. The one woman who loves him, he thinks as a friend with no sexual ideas in mind. Since he can't win Shiraki's heart by wooing her, he binds her to him using the book, gaining her fanatical love, but still isn't happy. He is later seduced by Kitami. Imari and Kitami are total opposites. Imari is naive and a virginal. Kitmai is mature and sexually dominating. Imari yearns after Minase, however she sits at home in dejection, and enables the situation. She doesn't stand up for herself, and waits for things to happen, crying herself to sleep when things don't work out as she planned. Kitami on the other hand, takes what she wants, with no fear of consequences. She doesn't care what others think of her, she determines her own future. Takashiro and Kitami are set agaisnt each other, by virtues of belief and past history. Bible Black is a story of opposites, a clash of will since the beginning of time.
Bible black, is a masterpiece. It is one of the most memorable OVA's ever to be released, earning a place in adult anime history.
