It is listed as seinen... Yeah, that's the point of bringing up school days. It was so much better thought out/deeper yet the masses dislike it, and like SAO. I guess everyone just wants to eat what's been already chewed up for them.

First of all, the novel is Seinen, the anime imo is shounen. Second of all School Days is a bad anime. Only the last episode was probably maybe good enough to say it was worth watching. Like someone said. School days is insanely overrated. Well thought out? Omfg have you actually paid attention to the anime? The mass dislike it for a reason. YOU just have different/no tastes.
If you don't enjoy anime where protag is helping people, then you pretty much barely have much anime to go by. Kirito is actually doing most things because he cherishes life, not because he wants to help people. He knows he can't save everyone. He moreso reminds me of Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin. He simply cannot ignore the people that are in trouble IN FRONT of him. Another example is he dislikes it when other people would kill another person, in this case, another person that is also trapped in their world. For example, he pretty much "used" Silica to the PVP guild that was killing people off for their items.

The anime itself is very high. Especially high compared to the shitty anime that have been coming out. This season is actually pretty good compared to the last 2-4 seasons. SAO has a plot, MULTIPLE Character development with a plus being caused by actual DEATH. It's unique on its own and has lessons that you may obviously be blind to.
Episode 6 was HONESTLY a very good episode. What, you hate this show cuz it doesnt have enough action or something? lolol Should study on some anime instead of just using personal preference.

And lastly, SAO overrated? HA. The majority of people who watch SAO already had interest in it because of the LN. If anything they DISLIKE the anime because they left out so much stuff.

Popping in really quick, is this anime worth watching?

Long story, read my post above. Short: I believe its worth watching. But you should always give it a try (unless its some shitty ecchi anime ;O but I still give them a try.) and judge it by yourself.

I just don't like all of this going around helping people without it directly benefiting him. It confuses me as to why he is going around wasting his time rather trying to achieve the ultimate goal by grinding and eventually finishing the game (which should save more people than helping on an individual basis). Do you not see where I am coming from? How can you argue that by helping individuals he is going to save more people than by ending the game.

It's like arguing that in his lifetime, one doctor will save more people than a scientist who finds the cure for cancer. It's just a silly childish argument.
