Shonen peotaganist are all pretty much the same. Mostly unbreakable determination with an impossibly rigid set of morals that would get you killed instantly in any of their worlds. Throw in a main enemy rival who turns into a friend, or who starts a friend and later becomes an enemy and a bunch of other random side characters, some crazy villians and you're good to go.

HxH has had better character development, antagonists and a much more cohesive plot than any of the major shonens so far. The side cast has been exponentially better than the supporting characters we normally get as well.

Yu Yu was great, but it fell off a cliff and everyone knows it lol. The supporting cast was also dated and annoying as fuck and even if you're just an action junkie, the best fights don't hold shit towards even mid-tier ones in HxH.

I find it weird you found Gon unrelatable when he just follows every other model for popular shonen characters, including Yu Yu. Was it because he doesn't have a love interest, or is it because he's like three years younger than your typical hero? Either way, he still follows the same mold and I love what they've done with him, especially now that we've seen what he's capable of as an adult.

Personal opinion entirely, but all the HxH guys are just better versions of the Yu Yu Hakusho cast.

Everyone loved Hei but he was minor, so they made him the main friend with Killua. Kuwabara was annoying as shit, Leorio is a slightly less annoying version, but he's been much more useless so far, and obviously Kurama is also just another version of Kurapika.

Seriously, HxH is just a better version of Yu Yu lol.

Clearly you're partial to older anime and that's fine, but understand that this is clearly a very weird personal opinion of yours.

I've watched both the original and 2011 versions multiple times. They're both FAR superior to Yu Yu, but the 2011 version is better and it's by a mile. The original didn't have the best arc... end of story. The Chimera Ant arc is one of the best, if not the best, season/arc of an anime ever. It's phenomenal from start to finish and it swings and hits it out of the park on every single level. Not even sure how you could pretend to be a fan of either show and then say Togashi's best work doesn't matter. The content isn't that different and the massive improvements elsewhere and the additional content make up for the minuscule changes in content that you and the other guy are complaining about from the original to the 2011 version.

thats funny, because i thought the last 2 seasons were terrible. it didnt even feel like hxh at that point. sure there were a few cool moments, but other than that i hated it.

2011 lacks all charm that the original had. not to mention they completely destroyed hisokas character. what a joke.

Not that popular opinion is the end all be all, but it's widely accepted that the Chimera Ant arc is one of the absolute best of any show ever made and I don't even understand what kind of insane bias could keep you form enjoying the later arcs.

Didn't feel like HxH but not a single example.... fun stuff. How dare their characters grow, I want it to be the exact same form start to finish gruff gruff gruff.

Still laughing my ass off about you trashing 2011 this hard while being a huge Yu Yu fanboy, a show that jumped the shark as hard as any other anime in history.

arguing about this feels pretty pointless. neither of us are going to agree with one another.

You could give some examples to add validity to your argument though... I'm all for a friendly or not so friendly debate on the subject, but I'm having a hard time understanding what else their is besides bias towards newer anime/remakes that's making you feel so negatively towards the best season of one of the best shows ever. Saying they ruined Hisoka is just nonsense, but again, I'm open to listening to why you believe that's true.

Greed Island was also phenomenal and while the election Arc wasn't anything special, it was a building arc to the real adventure with Ging. Something we've been waiting for for fucking ever and Togashi set it up perfectly.
