Just because a anime/manga has "intellectual" storyline, doesn't mean the watchers/readers are up to it's level of intellect.
Want to be really intellectual? read real books with no pictures and actually understanding it without having to google the "big words".

ANOTHER FALLACY

Only reason OP/Bleach/Naruto are widely known is because the vast majority of fans are mainly Youth. (or the childish ones in general)

Then you got the creepy older adults (like myself) that are aimed more into moeblobs/lolis. (School life, mecha, ...hentai? and etc)

Of course there will be more youth watching anime as to adults hence why Shounen does so well and why its so popular. It doesn't have to be good, just as long as it attracts the young audience.

Madoka/K-On! was a big hit since they attracted the youth/adult audience altogether. Then you got series such as the tearjerkers of Clannad/Elfen Lied doing well because it actually has a GOOD story to follow.

Dragon Ball was a hit while it lasted, I know it got me into it since I was young when that was airing. Now I'm older, I don't really grow into it as much hence why I dislike OP/Bleach/Naruto.

OP will be bad, and it'll stay that way. Kids like it, so it'll continue regardless of how retarded the fillers continue to be. I tried it for the longest time and I wasted my time completely.

I just got done watching two of the new ones with my brother (he still watches anime, lol)

I saw people getting shot with guns with little to no remorse. I saw adult sex-related themes. Adult humor.

and yet it's a kids show

when all of these claims aren't even true or not even as big a deal as you make them out.

I'd rather watch one piece than garbage like TTGL, Code geass or fate/stay night.

You only say all that stuff because you actually have not seen One Piece to the current episode. Please don't put One Piece in the same category as Bleach and Naruto because it is not.

And fyi One Piece actually has decent fillers and not that many compared to Bleach/Naruto. Also the most recent ~300 episodes have not been that kid friendly.
