light on the bottom layer, parts overlay on top, n then highlights added if needed.
pt of lightsource imo is to give the sig a reason to be lit the way it is, so u dont have weirdass highlights all over the front of his armor, for ex, when he's lit from behind.
+contrast'n all that, but any more of stronger source would cause yucky glare, or lit in place not want lit.
is same way u'd setup a 3d piece mostly
except it'd be more obvious since u could see your lights/range onscreen
