Okay, here's what cyba says

His sword is illusion, not hypnosis and he can only affect vision, and the other senses using optical illusions.

What cyba thinks his sword does is what everybody else in soul society thought his sword did before he defected. Unohana says that his sword uses mist in the air to create optical illusions, but then aizen reveals that his sword is ACTUALLY perfect hypnosis.

His sword is perfect hypnosis.
