Yes, they are different. Connecting with zangetsu is what happens when Ichigo's soul reaper powers are in control, and when his hollow is in control it manifests as him putting on his hollow mask.

so you're basically saying that when ichigo uses his hollow side, he can't use shinigami powers at all? lol....

Agreed, but during the fight w/ zaraki his soul reaper side had the majority of his power so a hollow mask wasn't necessary to tap into his hidden reserves.



No, I'm refering to when his inner hollow had enough control over him to take over his movements and stuff like vs byakuya

old man zangetsu is his shinigami side.... he used his shinigami powers to the max during that fight.... he didn't touch his hollow zangetsu at all during that fight (except maybe a little where he had no control of it)

He didn't use his hollow powers because they weren't very strong during his fight with zaraki. Most of his hidden powers were still with zangetsu so he got the "resolve" power boost where zangetsu manifests and he gets his powers that way. In the end they are the same power, the only difference is if his hollow side or soul reaper side are controling them which makes them manifest differently.

He did tap into his hollow powers during that fight, they just weren't very strong so the only thing he coudlg et out of his hollow powers was that mask that protected him from a killing blow. Since most of his powers were with zangetsu his hollow side wouldn't have done anything even if he did directly use them.

old man zangetsu=shinigami
zangetsu black and white one= hollow

in the fight vs zaraki he used old man zangetsu's power for the resolve, he didn't use the hollow zangetsu......he was all shinigami during that fight... he could be stronger if he pulled out his hollow reserves if he had it during that fight which makes him go above and behind old man zangetsu

his zangetsu inside is his hollow powers...... resolving with oldman zangetsu just peaks him on top of his shinigami powers... if he pulled out a mask he would've had his peak shinigami powers and hollow powers and overpower zaraki

Your not listening. During that fight he had virtually no hollow powers. The vast majority of his powers were with zangetsu during that time which is why he went resolve instead of hollow mask. His powers aren't like a 50/50 split between them, during this fight it was probably morel ike 10/90 with 10% being hollow. After he got his bankai there was a huge shift in power that put hollow side as the majority which is what allowed hollow ichigo to take over for the first time during that fight instead of zangetsu
